It's mid July, the Ukrainian counter offensive has fizzled, but the Russians have not moved forward to end the conflict. Perhaps they're content to continue to allow the Ukrainians to run into kill zones, or perhaps they fear that a push to clear everything East of the Dnieper will get NATO involved.

I will be very surprised if Dear Uncles brave boys do not start to mop up Kherson , Kharkov , Zaporozhye and then Odessa soon . Successfully crossing the Dneiper is the one huge last task .

Everyday Ukraine is advancing, having now recaptured 82km of land since counter offensive began.

It's not as fast as was hoped, but it is a careful, steady advancement through heavily mined and fortified territory.

The very reason progress is slow is that Ukraine doesn't do what Russia did in Bakhmut. It's taking more time, but it saves their soldier's lives.
