Canada and the UK have our differences and we dont necessarily follow them. Consider the Iraq War under GWB. We have sent in special forces in an unofficial manner to assist the U.S but we didnt publicly join the fight in Iraq. It is the reason Bush left Canada out of the countries he thanked in his first address after 9/11.
