UAE support programme to educate parents, teachers on dealing with special needs kids

A support programme for parents of children with special needs is to be expanded to include teachers, in a bid to help them educate students with special needs in mainstream schools.

The first phase of the scheme will target 128 teachers from more than 20 private and public schools in the UAE.

Medical education and research organisation Al Jalila Foundation yesterday announced plans to expand the reach of its Ta’alouf special needs programme, which currently offers assistance to parents.

Ta’alouf, which aims to provide “life-changing skills”, has so far trained 153 parents, and aims to target 800 parents over the next three years.
