As the article shows, canada has lots of tariffs on items they buy from america. On milk it's 270%!!!

march 5 2025 Jacob King provided key insights on the true dynamics of this trade war: over 84% of Mexico’s exports go directly to the U.S., and 77% of Canada’s exports are bound for the American market. These are staggering figures, and they tell you everything you need to know about the balance of power in this supposed “trade war.” If tariffs continue, it won’t be the U.S. that suffers—it’ll be Canada and Mexico, watching their economies spiral into one of the worst recessions in over a century. They don’t have the luxury of weathering this storm for long.
The truth is, tariffs don’t create inflation—government spending and money printing do. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either misinformed or deliberately misleading.

As we look at the numbers, it’s clear that countries like Canada have been enjoying trade advantages at the expense of the U.S. Prior to Trump’s tariffs today, here’s a list of Canadian tariffs on U.S. goods:

  • Milk: 270%
  • Cheese: 245%
  • Butter: 298%
  • Chicken: 238%
  • Eggs: 163%
  • Sausages: 69.9%
  • Barley Seed: 57%
  • Copper: 48%
  • Aluminum: 45%
  • Steel: 25%
  • Cars: 45%
  • Televisions: 45%

the USofA has some of the world's lowest tariff rates , and are one of the biggest consumer nations on this rock

We start to impose the same standards that other countries do, and are painted as thieves

And if Trump is true to his word, we will see tariffs levied in equal numbers against Canada. Their economy is already in the crapper and their dollar is down against the dollar about 6%. LOL

Canada has fully taken advantage of America's pussification. I don't blame them if our former leaders were stupid enough to let Canada rape us on trade. They better wake up, That was then, this is now.
I'm loving it and stocking up on the low exchange rate. Inevitably the CAD will return to about 75 cents on a US dollar but I'll be spending 69 cents. I hope the duck and the dragon lady like it.

Trump holds all the cards but he may not know how to play them in this instance (or he will back down). Also, there will surely be leaks in his circle who are going to provide information to Canadian negotiators. That's how these situations work.

The only way Trump can win this would be if he applied tariffs for a year, or at least until the 2026 USMCA/CUSMA is renegotiated. Now, my greater concern as a Canadian will be if he decides to keep on the tariffs AND refuses to renegotiate NAFTA 2.0. Or he might just negotiate bilateral agreements between Canada and U.S and the U.S and Mexico.

Canada isn't going to break in this instance so it will all depend on Trumps teams efforts and will power as the media will conrtinue the heat on him Americans don't seem to care much only the media who are getting funding from Canadian Premiers to do interviews and from corporations looking to avoid the tariffs.

China should be his focus but I suspect he has a bigger goal here and different methods to avoid impacting industries in the U.S. I lose no matter what since Canada stole my life for the last number of decades regardless. If Canada goes into a depression it will just give more talented Canadians the excuse for leaving for the U.S I suppose and they may not have to suffer at the hands of these criminal organizations as I have,

Odd how the first 6 are things they should be able to produce for their own population
Also as I read these tariffs do not take effect until they go over a set quota

we don't make TV's so why is there a tariff? all tv's are made in china, even LG and Samsung, Sony make them in china

that would be equal to a tariff on walrus tusks to us

USA first. Why is that such a strange concept to whiny commie lefties? Canada and Mexico already agreed to step up their efforts to stop the illegal shipment of drugs aimed at our kids. Isn't that worth the effort?

Fact is tariffs are very common. Press is lying again.
they are but not all are fair, if you charge 3% and country X charges 15% they make out good and they screw you
tariffs are more a protectionist against certain dumping of an item be it steel, corn or beef
