The hatred for Americans here is hard for U.S citizens to appreciate, I have lived it my entire life.

I recall when I went on business to the U.S and some of my colleagues looked down at me for laughing with American citizens. They gave me that look as if to say "why are you friendly with these Americans"? They just had an entirely different vibe than me as I am naturally one to bring deprecating humour and put people at ease. Went to a bar, owner shows his private room and the photos of all the cool bands who played there. Go to the hotel, chat with the guy at front and he upgrades my room, no charge.

I am thinking to myself "why in the hell do these guys hate Americans so much"? It dawned on me then, it is not YOU (at least, much of the time, perhaps most of the time), it is THEM. Thin skinned, low self esteem, a constant inferiority complex, something I have never had.

Hence the ridiculous media reaction to Team USAs win. Why? Canadians associate their own personal success, national success, with a bloody hockey team. Trump is just the convenient excuse, in good and bad times they find a reason to just despise America.

I have never been and will never be (barring new evidence and personal experience to the contrary) be like these fake nice people who are very, very cruel. Believe me, I have experienced it and the obedience to the abuse of others. It is East Germanesque.

I will give you Canadians some credit here: Apparently Canada and Australia are both assisting in the strike against Iran. The EU has said it doesn't want anything to do with it.
