Trump is a fascist, and he's installing fascists into key roles in the federal government. We have an emasculated congress where few if any republicans dare speak out or resist and that's because of fear, fear for them and their families.

No sensible person has said "Trump is the same as Hitler" that's not what the comparison is.

Well, you just condemned a significant part of the blamemainstreet media as not "sensible".

You need to do some studying and read about how fascism grew in say Germany. How Hitler and the party gradually transformed the system so that it was easier to suppress dissent, easier to incapacitate political opponents, easier to perform actions that were technically unlawful and so on.

Read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich actually seriously read it, it's a long book, lots of details but quite absorbing and you'll see how a very gradual process unfolded. Took years but what I see unfolding today it is very clear to me how the US has started this transformation.

Have you not read about the Hispanic US Citizen who supported Trump? voted for him but was arrested and handcuffed by ICE? I'm pretty sure he doesn't share your simplistic sanitized view anymore.

Trump and his army of yes-men are right now discovering what they can get away with, what they cannot be prevented from doing and it's already very clear to me that they can do almost anything they want, laws don't matter when they cannot be enforced.

So, first you say that no sensible person has said "Trump is the same as Hitler", then you proceed to try and make that case that he is. How do you square those two realities?

By all means look for differences, then pretend that because there are some then there's no fascism, that's an exercise in self delusion though. You fools label democrats as "Marxists" yet there's a world of difference between a Marxist state and one under say Biden or Obama, it's curious how those differences though never factor into your "thinking" when calling democrats "Marxists".

I got that book when I was 18, around 1977 and found it very absorbing. I took an interest in it because the TV series The World at War had been on TV a few months before and the book was a more detailed study of how the Nazis rose to power.

It wasn't dull either, I suspected it might be and it was the first time I took any interest in anything like history. It was very readable, lots of details, names, places and so on, but once I'd read it I had a very good idea of what a fascist state looks like and how it can arise seemingly out of nowhere.

Also when I was at that age I'd regularly meet people who'd survived the war, much of my home city was bombed too and there were reminders everywhere of the destruction wrought by Hitler and that made it much more real, not some abstract academic subject to be discussed in some highbrow detached fashion.
