Two topics about climate change - how to back up files and Paris

First, why not go back to writable blue-rays or flash drives instead of backing things up in the cloud. We can also limit high-end AI use.

Next,

After Paris curbed cars, air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change - The Washington Post

Look at the two photographs before and after.
1) So big tech can hold your info hostage unless you keep renewing your license with them and

2) Okay but that is more a smog thing than a climate thing. To me the more interesting story is UK starting a test program to extract CO2 from sea water because there is so much more stored there than in the air.

(1) Okay then we agree; we've identified a big problem and a solution.

(2) Covid was shown mathematically to slow climate change. This kind of activity in Paris should show science too.

My big tech extortion story about the cloud is this--we used quickbooks forever that was hosted locally; quickbooks then forced us onto the online version which is about $800 per year but when it came time to do our taxes, it wouldn't give us the reports in the way we needed unless we paid them another $800 to "fix" the way the books were set up or upgrade to their most expensive tier which is almost $3K a year. I told them to eff themselves. I bought a $45 program and paid someone to re-enter our books for last year and cancelled my subscription.

Interesting.

I'm just glad I don't have anything worth storing on/in the cloud.

No shits given about the Frogs.....Sounds like they surrendered again.

It should give you shock and remorse and pause.
