Two American teenagers have been implicated in an Italian policeman's murder and are being held pending formal charges, Italy's Carabinieri police force said Saturday.

The two, both 19 years old, "confessed their deeds" after an Italian paramilitary policeman was fatally stabbed in Rome on Friday while investigating the theft of a bag with a cellphone. Elder Finnegan Lee and Christian Gabriel Natale Hjorth are being detained for aggravated murder and attempted extortion, correspondent Seth Doane reports.

A 35-year-old newlywed Carabinieri officer, Mario Rega, was stabbed to death on a Rome street early Friday morning. The Carabinieri said their investigation reveals that shortly before the murder, the two young men stole a backpack from an Italian man, and then threatened him during a phone call that they would not return the backpack unless they were given 100 euros and a gram of cocaine.

There is some sad people who can't learn (in life) what bad is. They just keep doubling down. Once sell the soul it's over for many who do it so willingly for the things of this Earth, and even if upon many times over it is proven that it is short lived, they do it anyway. Temptation is a tragic and yet appealing thing to many, but very deadly all at the same time. The nation needs a spiritual revival, but the demons are many today. It might be out of our hands, and into Gods hand at this point. We should pray for healing, and an end to the suffering so prevalent in society today.

Yes we are adorned with many lavish modern day appearances that make us appear as powerful as the Romans were or as high tech as the Germans were in world war two, yet our hearts have been darkened within. Many powerful civilization's have ended when during their times it appeared that such a thing would be impossible.

It matters not what the appearance of anything is, but what matters is the content of the inside, and of what it delivers be it in speak, taste or smell is when it is known of whether it is good or bad.

We have many amazing successes, but will they become short lived as history has shown us time and time again ??

Evilness upon this Earth is busting at the seams now, so travelers in the world beware.

Looks like a mix of adolescent brains, drugs, and either criminal mischief or criminal disorder.
Cases like this make me think we owe an answer or an apology to law enforcement
that have to give their lives until people take responsibility for the idea that drugs are a choice.

If Liberals were as against drugs as against guns, maybe we'd take these issues seriously.
We take too much freedom for granted, it costs people their lives, including law enforcement officers.

At some point, aren't we going to agree enough is enough?
And it isn't worth the loss of lives to run around promoting freedom to take drugs as some kind of recreational choice?

The answer isn't more criminalization which only makes the existing problems more complicated and expensive.

The answer that Liberals don't want to recognize is that the cure to
ending drug addiction and abuse takes focusing on mental health screening, counseling and therapy
to prevent these issues in advance from becoming criminal abuses and violations.

Because these aren't political solutions requiring govt, the focus keeps getting diverted elsewhere.
But the real solution is addressing mental and criminal disorders LONG BEFORE any such crime or violence results.

This update states they had been drinking alcohol and one of them was on prescription X@n@x.

There is a chance they didn't understand the two men accosting them were POLICE if they
used the term "carabinieri" to identify themselves. The young men claimed they thought they
were being attacked and set up by the person they were in a conflict with over a fake drug deal.

Very tragic to lose a police officer
and one who had just gotten married about a month earlier
in the same church where his same loved ones are memorializing him.

The half-Italian man was visiting his grandfather in Italy
and his friend traveled to meet him. They meant to have fun,
but this involved drugs in a deal that went bad, got police involved
where both got injured and one died.

The one thing clear is blaming drugs for this one.
If our countries and police can work together, seriously,
maybe we can highlight the connection between DRUGS and crime
and quit getting sidetracked. Address the addiction and demand
and unite to stop the deaths and destruction from these drugs
that are not safe recreational choices.

The simple answer is to formulate a winning strategy to defeat illegal drugs in this country once and for all. Fight to WIN the war dammit. No exceptions. Insulate the communities from it once gone through, and then clean each and every community of those illegal drugs by the users voluntarily giving them up, accepting rehad, and fining people with huge fines and jail time if caught with them again.

The main ingredient to winning wars is to have a winning strategy. So far that hasn't happened. If we fought world war two the way we have done anything since, then we would be speaking German or Japanese now.
