What happens at 8 p.m.? Even Trumpās allies arenāt sure.
As the clock ticks down to President Donald Trumpās Tuesday evening deadline to reach a war-ending deal with Iran, Gulf Arab countries are in the dark. The U.S.ās European allies are clueless. Even people close to the White House are unsure whatās next. And Trumpās Tuesday morning threat that āa whole civilization will die tonightā ā unless āsomething revolutionarily wonderfulā happens in the scant hours that remain ā has some fearing the worst case scenario: that the president would use nuclear weapons against Iran.
It is exactly the kind of made-for-television, edge-of-your-seat moment that has become one of the presidentās hallmarks ā replete with a primetime deadline. And it comes with a grim, apocalyptic tinge that has left Washington ā and indeed, the world ā on a knifeās edge.
Never mind allies (does he have any), I don't think trump is sure either. The market is betting against $5 gas and the economic chaos it would cause or it would be down big today. But that implies a degree of rationality, so far absent from the decisions being made by the guy who is threatening the end of a civilization.
IMO, Don is about the last guy we want to be in a position like this. Cuz he's a sociopath. The fact that what he's going to decide is so unpredictable is evidence of that. Regrettably, in this regime, there are no adults in the room. Get your popcorn ready and stay tuned.
