Trump grants sweeping pardon of Jan. 6 defendants, including rioters who violently attacked police
President Donald Trump has pardoned, commuted the prison sentences or vowed to dismiss the cases of all of the 1,500-plus people charged with crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S.

We need to be reminded of that as we are bludgeoned with daily bombardments of actions in contradiction to law, tradition, decency, and reason.
No politician in US history would even have contemplated, or politically survived, such an obscene act of injustice as the release of violent criminals involved in the Jan. 6 riot. Yet it's already been lost in a whirlwind of daily, disorienting events.
The moment trump's decision was announced congressional Repubs should have made it known trump's agenda was DOA on the Hill. The editorial boards of every major media outlet in the country should have published a front page condemnation. Cabinet nominees should have withdrawn their names from consideration. Prison officials should have refused to comply with the pardons. Millions of people should have taken to the streets in protest. Repubs among them.
It's time for a reset. It's time we recognize the magnitude of just how abnormal these times are rather than normalize the bizarre idea of having a convicted criminal who pardoned violent, convicted criminals as prez. Collectively, we need to............
