Here's how i see it :

THIS SEEMS LIKE A BAD MOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, President Trump & team.
but then again, both WW1 and WW2 were preceded by economic crashes.

what i wonder about though, is if economic tradewars preceded these crashes,
and if tit for tat in economic warfare is a bad idea right from the outset,
much like i consider it to be in diplomatic and real world warfare.

So his policy is to increase trade with China AND decrease trade with China with his tariffs.... the dude is either a genius or completely bonkers...

The US trade deficit with China has steadily risen over the last four years.

Now if you want to have a conversation about "bonkers", let me remind you: The person currently sitting in the White House with his finger near the nuclear trigger, was once ruled mentally-incompetent to stand trial by his own Justice Department, in a case where he illegally possessed classified documents.

That should scare the living shit out of you.

China takes but doesn't consume U.S goods.and services. It is a one way street,.America and the West are funding.Chinas expansion, be it in Africa, Asia or South America. This must dramatically change. The trade war has been active for decades, the U.S just pretended they didn't realize this fact.

The simple fact in this China/US trade war issue is that China doesn't need American goods at all (or, at least, on a level needed to smooth out a trade balance between them).

While the US imports heavily the Chinese goods for one obvious reason - they are way cheaper than American ones (just remember MAGA caps and 'Trump's Bibles' as an example of that).

You can't make the Chinese to buy the American stuff. But yes, you can ban the Chinese stuff or impose tariffs on that. The main question is how much an American consumer is ready to pay to sustain this policy.

well, we'll have to outcompete the Chinese not just on quality of goods produced then,
but also on sheer consumer cost of the stuff.

Then you need to significantly lower the costs of producing the goods. Any ideas?

Want the same exact product made here as in China? Then pay american workers double the wage to produce it or don't bother opening a factory here to produce it.

Yeah, so no one is bothering to do that.

Good. We need a standard of wage here. The Chinese model won't work here.
Yes, I know. But some people are so excited about tariffs on the Chinese goods.
