Trump threatens to restrict stadium deal with Washington Commanders if they don’t change name back to ‘Redskins’

You struck out.

As long as federal funding isn't involved Trump doesn't have a say in the matter

I thought the entire name change was absurd but Trump is picking fly shit out of pepper on this one
Fact is that Obama and Interior Secretary Debbie Haaland put pressure
on teams to have their Native American mascots removed. So there was
federal influences for the push, and outright state legislation to have the
mascots removed.

Washington Redskins? I'm all for it.
The reason being that it was changed for the wrong reason.
Political correctness is, and has always been a joke.
.

I bought a bunch of Redskins fabric before the change, for making masks.

So, okay. In case we ever get hit with the mask bullshit, I'm ready.

Meaning the owner will pay for the new stadium out of his own pocket?

The owner should.

No doubt but I still think it's absurd

There's more important things to worry about than this

You mean the useless face diaper masks?

Yeah, those.

Hard to believe, but I still see people wearing them.

I made the most money making Las Vegas Raiders masks and also their Golden Knights masks for my nephew, who gave them as promotional gifts to clients of his business.

It's nonsense and there's bigger fish to fry
Leftists all brought this stuff on themselves by being so overly woke. Trump may not even have been president a second time, maybe not even the first, if they hadn't lost their ever ******* minds. They are the ones who made their beds and now they have to lie in them. While I agree with you that this is petty and basically a non-issue, I kind of enjoy what the left have done to themselves. None of it had to happen. That's what happens when the pendulum swings too far in one direction. It eventually swings back in the other direction and that is where we are today.

President Donald Trump on Sunday escalated his call for the Washington Commanders to change their name back to the “Redskins,” threatening to restrict the NFL team’s stadium deal if they don’t, though it’s unclear how he would be able to.

“I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Yeah, maybe a bit of overreach on Trump's part but I sure like the idea.

Godspeed, it would be be a major coup for Skins fans.

I'd be OK with the feathered spear logo too.

I’m good with the notion of supporting a reversal on the name change, but such a threat is over the top.

Not if you are a Skin's fan. ;)
I used to be a Redskin fan many years ago during the Billy Kilmer/Sonny Jergunson/George Allen days. The stupidest thing I have ever seen in sports is dropping a team name and then simply calling them the "Washington Football Team". How stupid is that? They couldn't even come up with a name for the team for like two or three years? Then they pick the name "Commanders"? What the hell is a commander?

Having said that, I can actually see how the name Redskins is a little on the offensive side but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the name Cleveland Indians and I'm glad the Atlanta Braves couldn't be forced into change their name because that isn't offensive either.

I guess every now and then a President is entitled to a bit of overreach for personal reasons and this is one of those. Not something the federal government needs to be involved in but I suppose essentially harmless overall. I think to threaten sanctions is wrong though. Make your opinion known. But do not involve the taxpayer. I feel the same way about the "Gulf of America" thing--unnecessary and costly because of changes in maps and such. As for renaming Denali, that name was given by Barack Obama at the request of the Alaska legislature. But the mountain had been Mt. McKinley since 1896 so there is a bit more justification for changing it back though unnecessary.

I have always believed naming sports teams with Indian names was because the native American people were admired and there is no denigration or shame there.

Fighting Irish of notre dame is about as offensive as it gets but Irish people are OK with it. Perhaps too drunk to notice but still OK.

Stupid a lot bigger things to worry about than this BS, I dislike when .democrats force others to conform to their ideals and I dislike it when republicans do the same.
