Trump threatens to restrict stadium deal with Washington Commanders if they don’t change name back to ‘Redskins’

Bullshit. Redskins isn’t derogatory like those terms. How many Redskin tribe members you heard or know screaming racism and derogatory?

The slur is antiquated because 'Indian Affairs' isn't something that's in modern discourse. Keep in mind that most of the indigenous DNA in this country was either wiped out or amalgamated into white ancestry (like me). You don't hear a lot of outrage because Native Americans have little or no political power.

No. I was a little sad about it, but I can see how many Native Americans would be offended by that name. I just wish the team had come up with a better, more original name than "Commanders". How boring.

I always loved the helmet logo. It was one reason I picked them as my team growing up.

I followed the renaming saga on and off for years and I’ve seen just a handful, very small handful, of natives protesting the name. I’ve don’t recall hearing any protest against the Indians, Blackhawks, or Braves. If anything, the naming is an honor but Democrats managed to turn the names into derogatory insults. I am shocked that Democrats didn’t demand the military to rename some of the arsenals.

It’s not a slur. You said there aren’t many left so the name should be an honor. What is derogatory about calling a team Redskins, Braves, Blackhawks, or Indians? None of those terms are derogatory in anyway.

Redskin is an offensive term. It has been used derisively to refer to Native Americans.

The term Redskin was just a slang word (informal english) to refer to a group of (excluded) people (from a given group) known for their very RED SKIN.

There is nothing intrinsically offensive about it other than its pointing out Indians as a minority generally excluded from mainstream America, and THAT is really what you find offensive, not the words, but the idea.

Says a white supremacist, maybe.

If you can't see the difference between Redskins and Braves, Blackhawks, Indians, or Chiefs, I can't help you. Only education can.

You're not qualified to determine if it's a slur or not.

I seriously doubt that you think it's appropriate for a black person to call you "white trash" just because the black person doesn't consider it an insult.

You have no idea what you're talking about. "Redskin" was used in newspapers the same way "savages" was when describing conflict between white settlers and indigenous people.

lol… I don’t believe you can label me a white supremacist since I ain’t white. I just didn’t swallow whatever political parties and media feed me unlike you.

When will you petition the Angels to scrap the name. Religious folks may be offended.

Exactly as I said, moron. It was used as a pejorative to distinguish the IN group (white settlers) from the OUT group (those enemy redskin heathens).

So your argument is that we had to do away with calling a team the 'Redskins' on 2022 because of what some settlers said back in 1748, 274 years earlier.

Listen, Tardicus, it's fuckin offensive. I get that you, being the white ***** you are, don't find it offensive or care if it's offensive.

More recently than that, but I realize you're a racist booger-eater who doesn't know shit about history.

"Oh, I'm like 1% African. I know because I got a DNA test on 23andme."

Look, I don't care what you are: if you're arguing that Redskin isn't offensive, you're carrying white supremacists' water. If you're not white and agreeing to carry that bucket, that just makes you pathetic.

Good point. Kind of like how black people were called negros. Maybe Trump should demand they chance their name to the Washington Negros?

Or the New Orleans/Atlanta/Carolina slaves.

Hey man, it's honoring American history.

It's nonsense and there's bigger fish to fry

I get Trump's point and I agree with him, just that I'm not sure it is really any of his business as president to be meddling around with interfering in. I never liked the Redskins. That is, until now as the Commanders, they are finally playing some pretty good ball.

Then shut the **** up and see the name-change as an omen.

Aw come on, it's just a bit of verbal tweaking in the proper direction. You are just torqued because Trump implied it.
Not torqued at all. It’s just a simple case of a commie idea of government overreach and it’s amusing to see all the so called conservatives bend over backwards to defend it.

How so? The corporation makes $ and they dont consider the community.
The effect of a stadium opens up the need for restaurants bars retail shops and all kinds of commerce in that area which benefits business owners and their employees. Tax revenue is generated and the economic engines turn
