Reducing the size of government would make us a better country.

Better at what though? Currently, the government does so many things it shouldn't be doing in the first place, that I really don't want it to be more efficient. I want it to go away.
A lot of it needs to go away.
There's so much bloat and redundancy. We have unelected bureaucrats running the country that don't EVER go away no matter who we vote for.

And regulatory fiefdoms controlled largely by the companies they regulate.

I think it's pretty obvious that government isn't going to police itself. Efficiency and accountability is the mortal enemy of government, so this is a death struggle if it is allowed to proceed. This is the strength of Congress, control of taxing and spending and I can see a huge push back, an outside agency doing their job. If it is staffed with rotating staters it will look good but their teeth will be pulled fast. More " government studies show.......". https://thehill.com/homenews/498871...amy-will-lead-under-the-trump-administration/

Exactly. All of the best recommendations that cut "waste" and inefficiency could fade away if Congress doesn't pass Laws implemkenting them.

What I don't know is if Trump could use EOs to start the ball rolling.

Elon Musk's "efficiency programs" made several rockets blow up, and made the CyberTruck into the worst vehicle ever produced in all of American history.

The guy is a drug-addled clown. Nobody wants him in charge of anything.
efficiently moving my money into musks untaxable bitcoun wallet does not seem veryv "efficioent" but whatever. now we live with it.

One of my recommendations has always been to have another "Grace Commission" to study the Federal government and eliminate waste. fraud and abuse. It could also make major cost cutting recommendations like sending Welfare and Medicaid back to the States. Some changes would require legislation, others could be by Executive Orders.
The Grace Commission failed, it would have save the US from DEBT, but Congress never supported their money saving recommendations.

Key Facts

  • The commission will be “tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government” and make “recommendations for drastic reforms,” Trump said in his speech Thursday at the Economic Club of New York.
  • Musk has agreed to lead the commission, Trump said—and while Musk has not commented since Trump’s speech Thursday, he has repeatedly said in the past he would be open to serving on the commission.
  • The group’s first order of business, Trump said, will be formulating a plan to “totally eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months.”
  • Musk has repeatedly raised the idea for such a commission, describing it as one that would ensure “taxpayers’ money . . . is spent in a good way,” and telling Trump he would be “happy to help out” during a live chat on X last month.
  • Trump and his advisers have been discussing for months the formulation of a group led by business executives that would comb government spending for excess, the Washington Post reported earlier this week.
  • In response to the Washington Post report, Musk wrote “can’t wait” and that there is “a lot of waste and needless regulation in government that needs to go” on X.

Musk may be conflicted and unable to divest. Even without Musk this commission needs to happen.
More bureaucracy from a guy who claims he gonna destroy the deep state.

Moar bypassing of Congress for moar bureaucracy.

They want to shut down the FBI and fire thousands of workers, which is so good for the economy, not.

Liberal math. Create 1 agency that removes 100 agencies and somehow that creates MORE bureaucracy.

Hopefully they suggest something as simple as zero-based budgeting. The lack of this approach is a large reason for the never-ending, ever-growing bloat in government.

He has done such a good job destroying Twitter/X
Work harder for less money or you are fired
Cry me a river. Government employees are collecting $150,000 a year while “working” from home 4 days a week - running errands, going to the movies, doing household chores, taking walks, getting in a session at the gym, etc.

The scam is up. Just be glad you’re retired, or you might actually be required to put in a full day.

The waste in government is sickening. Absolutely no regard to how they throw away taxpayers’ hard-earned money.

I worked for the government for one year in my early 20s - and quit because I was tired of wasting my days doing nothing - and saw unbelievable waste. Here’s one example:

My boss, a GS-15, told me he had a headache and to run down to the government store (in the same building….its where you buy supplies and the purchase gets charged to your department) to buy a thermometer. When I went down there, I learned they were only sold in packs of 20 - for $120 - since they were designed for the scientific experiments. (That’s $600+ dollars in 2024.)

So….I ran back upstairs and told him that, and offered to run over to the drugstore. He snarled at me to “just go back downstairs and buy the pack,” which I did. I got back, handed him the pack, and….

….he took one of the thermometers out of the pack, dumped the other 19 IN THE TRASH CAN, and turned around and gave me a smirk.

I could tell MANY stories like that, and I was there only a year.

Another Conservative myth

I worked almost 40 years for the Federal Government and never saw anyone ordered or even asked to run a personal errand.
Your personal story above is obvious BS

Another attempt to hide what’s going on with government employees. I live here, and know many Government workers. They even laugh about it if you ask. Two of them even admitted their jobs are could be part-time. They go on vacations and don’t even declare annual leave.

The scam is up.

Your story is obviously made up

Your boss has a headache and sends you for a thermometer. What is a thermometer going to do to relieve a headache?
Then you embellish your story and say he dumped 19 in the garbage in front of you and smirked as he did it. Real people would dump them when you were gone

In reality, a boss like that would be reported. As you know, it is next to impossible to fire a Government employee. Whistle blowers are all over the place

You are making shit up
