I disagree with the idea of reopening Alcatraz.

America already has good alternatives for locking up the worst of the worst. Guantanamo Bay is just as secure as Alcatraz.

The problem with a place like Alcatraz is who would want to work there? you'd have to live in a hell hole like San Fran and commute on a boat every day.

Sounds like a real pain in the ass all around.

Further, Alcatraz serves a purpose now as a tourist trap- something for San Fran visitors to do after they rode on a cable car and ate at the finest rice a roni restaurant in town.

It's a 22 acre site and since it's federally owned there are no worries about just razing it and pushing the rubble into the Bay.

Your typical 1K - 1200 inmate Super Max has roughly a 12 acre site footprint so it's possible but not very cost effective.
