Trump plans 100% tariff on computer chips, unless companies build in U.S.

pretty slick for 2011, My first build was 2000
I built PCs before that but believe me, even a good quality PC with custom case, AMD chip, quality M/B, etc., is but a toy compared to what Apple makes. Keep in mind that most people buying a MacPro workstation are either video graphics, photography or music professionals, universities, or the like. Last I checked, a MacPro workstation now went for around $12,000 now and make my computer look like a pile of junk.

apple did not make that raid card, likely adaptec which in 2011 server grade yes would likely have a crazy price like that.
Next time I open the case, I will have to look and see what I can see.

When I bought the computer, I wanted a computer that was bullet-proof. I did a lot of legal work involving important documents, so, designed the computer for maximum file security.

I can pull a HDD out while the computer is running and not hurt anything, will not even lose any files, performance, or operation, then plug it back in and the rest of the computer will bring it back up to date to what it missed and resume normal operation.

Even my outboard back-up HDD is RAIDED, RAID 1 or 2, I forget which, though that is separate from the computer.

never cared for apple OS even back in school, I assume you not using that or windows or linux?
I don't know about apple enterprise grade systems off hand, generally DELL is mentioned

In 2011, I doubt you could go to staples and buy a computer that costly and the would have one in stock

I know HP does make some server grade you could buy in the past

last computer I bought before I started to build my own was an HP with a celeron, wow that got and old and slow fast

Last time I bought anything that was a ***** to upgrade, custom board etc and they want you buy their own branded HP drives which are just a WD or seagate with their name on it for 3x the price....

F that! I can customize my Lian-li aluminum case all I like and I have

nothing but noctua fans but back in the day panasonic panaflo, Sanyo Denki, nidec and delta were the top dogs
used them all, still have some in some older builds for friends and family and self, still working great

chinese brands like yate loon are freaking garbage, not even worth installing......throw them away

what bus would that be?
The tariff bus. The destruction of the trade and manufacturing system bus. What do you do with it now you've caught it?

apparently that is what he is doing with china in the crosshairs, yes my last intel chip was Vietnam, back in the day costa rica or Malaysia
Sounds like the Clinton-Bush slave labor frenzy. NWO sucked from the very beginning.

We shouldn't rely so heavily on other nations for the production of such vital technology in my opinion.

Chips typically account for 20–30% of a computer's total cost. Expect a ballpark of 20–40% price jump when buying one as a result, depending on the device, margins, and domestic sourcing.

The result will be a lot more domestic production, and fast. In the long run it will be worth it.
And ametican citizens may get 3x the pay for the same product. Thats a win

still not sure what you are talking about, I did not catch anything, bus or otherwise.
just pointing out a story that I posted
It's absurd but that is how trump strong arms countries to do business here, were one of the largest economies on earth, course they want to play ball if you force them to

That's fine in a few years but Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Micron all make their parts outside the USA, this screws the consumer now who wants to upgrade or rebuild
nobody is going to pay double for a samsung 970 but good chance the T500 is made in mexico, does it get a pass?

Intel does have a few FAB's in the USA but they make enterprise chips, not consumer

he means well well but it's a marathon, not a sprint.......doubling the price tomorrow is insanity

thoughts?

story
Who said it was tomorrow? I believe it is supposed to be in a year.

This seems very high, is there production of chips currently occurring so that they can be made locally? If not, this tariff will backfire unless there is a domestic replacement. He never should have allowed certain chips to be sent to China without them committing to domestic production.
It is designed to encourage them to build factories here, just like Apple is doing!
