In a Republic, actually
“Trump does unpopular stuff, and he becomes more unpopular. The erosion mostly comes from independents because Republicans are highly loyal to him and Democrats are already almost uniformly opposed.

But Trump will need those independents to win re-election. He needed them to become president in the first place.

[…]

Or things could get a lot worse than that for Trump, and he could lose independents by a wider margin. In the 2018 midterms, Republicans lost independents by 12 percentage points, contributing to a 40-seat loss in the House. The key facet of the midterms is that turnout was very high, including among the Republican base. But it was also high among the Democratic base, and Republicans badly lost independents. The base alone isn’t enough to win national elections, especially for Republicans, since fewer voters identify as Republicans than as Democrats.”

FiveThirtyEight? WTF.

That’s ok, he will be out of office by Christmas,2017. Wasn’t that the mantra on this board and all over by left wingers when he took office?

From what I've seen, his approval numbers are going up, and quite fast at that.
Either Americans in greater numbers think the President is doing a better job, or they think the Democrats are doing a poor job.

Exactly. The poll question they need to ask is "do you support open borders with the Southern fence torn down and ICE eliminated, or strong borders and strong immigration law enforcement?"

That's a retarded question.

The Democrats have made a strategic mistake, being so flat out obstructionist about the Wall. A lot, probably most, see nothing wrong with a physical barrier on our border and those who aren't thinking about the political ramifications or the system of checks and balances are probably nodding and saying good for Trump.

They don't pose such biased poll questions, kyzr.

Poll questions like that are what is wrong with polling.

More election strategy from a leftwing shill.

The poll question they need to ask is: "do you support open borders with the Southern fence torn down and ICE eliminated, or strong borders and strong immigration law enforcement?"

Beto and many democrats support tearing the "immoral" southern wall down, and many democrats want ICE eliminated. I don't see this question as unfair, it is EXACTLY the choice voters will have in 2020.

If you disagree, please provide reasons why you disagree. Don't just whine about it.

Oddly enough, Trump did unpopular stuff during the election and became MORE popular! He was elected for doing these things now you'd have us think the very same people hold it against him? His most popular quality: sticking to his guns no matter what and forging ahead. People don't care so much about the guy, whether he grabbed a pussy behind scenes at his own beauty pageant, they care that he is putting his Make America Great agenda ahead of his own political career.

If Trump is so unpopular, why are there masses of people at his speeches and handfuls at his Democrat's opponents. Don't make the same mistake you made in 2016.

The MSM are intentionally trying to drive poll numbers by their 98% negative coverage of the president. They're opposed to him keeping the promises he was elected to do.

His approval numbers are at historic lows, where did you get the idea they were going up?

Trump offers unmitigated spectacle, and the audience takes a nice, warm bath in an ocean of shared hatred for Those People, and collective authoritarian submission to the Dear Leader. The rubes wouldn't want to miss that. Nothing remotely comparable happens at a Democratic rally.
