With the NYT producing "illegal" Trump tax returns the question is did Trump illegally reduce his tax liabilities?
According to this 1935 Federal ruling...NO!!!
Judge Learned Hand stated that "anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible;
he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury.
There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes.
Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible.
Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands."

So what is the big deal? Again as a property developer, most developers ALSO minimize their taxes!
Plus the NYT does NOT report that Trump paid payroll taxes, paid State and city income taxes. But that was NOT included!

Tax Avoidance Is Both Smart and Honorable
Trump has been accused of not paying taxes. "That makes me smart," he said. He is right.
