Successful businessmen seldom make good politicians because the country cannot be run as a business. The goal of business is to produce a profit. Government has to maintain an infrastructure which supports business and the country' s economy, as well providing safety and security for it's people.

Three bankruptcies, three or four marriages, all to progressively younger women. The guy is a walking, talking disaster. But by all means, I do hope he runs.

LIke it or not, the government is a business. it has income and expenses just like any business. It is going broke because it has not been run like a business and has spent more than its income for years. It has to stop or our economy will collapse.

Our Government is not going broke. We have one of the strongest enonomies in the world and are among the most wealthiest nations

18 trillion in debt, over 20 trillion by the time obozo leaves office. unfunded entitlements in the hundreds of trillions, only paying interest on the debt, nothing on the principal.

Yes, our economy is strong, but when the major item in the federal budget is interest on the debt, and it soon will be, we are on the way to fiscal disaster.

Tell me, dude. how much debt is too much? when must the govt keep spending within income? when must the govt start paying down the principal of the debt?

The only reason we have debt it because we are too lazy to pay it

I have much more debt than my annual salary. Doesn't mean I am bankrupt as I have no problem paying my bills

Government cannot be run like a business. There is too much oversight. You cannot chose the best contractors who offer a decent price. You have to publicly tender the contract and give it to the lowest bidder.

If the contractor does shoddy work, it can create a mess, slow down completion of the contract and add to the costs.

I did a 6-month contract with a governmental agency responsible for the construction and maintenance of government facilities and it was eye-opening. In order to have evidence that the government was not being ripped off, there was a project manager from the construction company and a project manager for the government.

One contractor routinely failed had liens filed on every project. Lots of them. Their bids were so low that they couldn't build the projects for the amount they bid. They failed to meet a single deadline, their buildings were poorly constructed. Fixing their mistakes pushed all of their projects over budget. In frustration I asked "Why are we still doing business with these people?" The answer, of course, was public tendering.

The agency I worked for finally did come up with a way to stop doing business with that contractor. The contractor responding by suing the government for breaching their contract. I don't know how that turned out as the suit was filed just as I left the agency.

Successful business people can cherry pick their contractors and can fire those who don't deliver. They don't duplicate work, or have to prove they're not wasting taxpayer money. They can always point to the bottom line to show success or failure.

There is no bottom line in government. At best you can balance the budget, but there's no profit and loss report to quantify your success, or lack thereof.
