Alas all the good friends/family we used to have to do that are either passed on or in assisted living facilities and we take care of them. Our last dog was an amazing creature. Smartest animal we've ever owned and we've had some brilliant fur friends over the years. But it tore me up the few times no one was available to watch him when we were working on road trips and we had to board him. It seems so unfair to him even though the facility was a great doggy day care facility as well as boarding facility. And now the boarding fees are double or more what they were back then.

President Donald Trump is the only president in more than 100 years to not own a dog while living in the White House - and now he's explained why.
The last president without a dog was William McKinley, the 25th president. He did, however, have kittens, parrots and roosters as pets. Mr Trump, on the other hand, is breaking presidential tradition by having no pets at all living in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
On Monday night, while appearing at a rally in El Paso, Texas, Mr Trump explained that the concept of adopting a dog is “phony” to him, and argued that his supporters will still like him despite not owning a dog. He also said that he just doesn’t have the time to look after a pet.
“You do love your dogs, don’t you?” Mr Trump said to a cheering crowd, after a tangent about how German shepherds have the superior ability to sniff drugs being smuggled into the country. “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?"
Mr Trump confessed that a lot of people have advised him to adopt a dog since it would make him look good politically, but he has repeatedly refused to consider pet adoption arguing, “that’s not the relationship I have with my people.”
“I don’t know, I don’t feel good,” he added. “Feels a little phony to me.”
I thought maybe he was allergic to pet dander or something....Makes sense, I won't have anymore dogs because one would likely out live me at this point.
Given the work Trump puts in that would be one lonely dog. That and he's old.

Yes, it has always hurt my heart to leave a critter, even for an afternoon. I think they have no understanding of "now" and "later", just "Mom's here" and "Mom's gone". I don't think they have a "Mom will be back" clue.
I got really happy when hotels started allowing pets in rooms. I'd gladly pay extra for the privilege of having my pup with me. And I got them pretty well pad-trained so they never wet or soiled the carpet.

Maybe I can think for myself. A couple of examples. Trump is attempting to fire Lisa Cook, of the Federal Reserve, because she allegedly now, committed mortgage fraud. She listed two residences as her primary residence in order to get a lower mortgage rate. Now get this, she paid the loans, the banks didn't complain, nobody was hurt. Does that argument sound the least bit familiar? Add to that the fact that at least three members of the Trump administration have done the very same thing. Are they going to be fired?
But then there is this whole war in Ukraine, how Trump could end it with a phone call. Putin flies into Alaska, they have a sit-down. Then, European leaders fly in, including Ukraine's comedian turned president, oh Trump is going to fix everything. The Trumpsters here post all kinds of threads singing Trump's praises. And oh Trump is going to lay down the law, put sanctions in place. Then, ******* nothing happens, no cease fire, no agreement, not even a damn meeting. And no flippin sanctions, nothing, no action from Trump, NADA. Nohing but silence from the Trumpsters.
I mean I don't get it. Inflation, we have made no progress. Grocery prices, damn, I got to admit, even I got caught by surprise today. Beef tips, stir-fry, those are what are called "fall-off cuts". Like stew, ground beef, they are processed from the remainder of other cuts. A few months ago they were $9.99 a pound. Last month they jumped to $14.99 lb and I flipped shit. Today, out of nowhere, $16.99 a pound, WTF?
The job numbers suck no matter who Trump fires or hires. Manufacturing has taken a huge hit, what happened to Trump bringing manufacturing jobs back. GDP growth, two quarters into this second Trump administration, and we can't even achieve two percent annualized GDP growth. We got Kennedy spouting off against vaccines and we are seeing childhood deaths from measles at levels we haven't seen in decades. I mean for the love of God, children are dying from whooping cough, WHOOPING COUGH, that hasn't happened since Gilligan's Island debuted.
I mean this administration is a damn clown show, and that makes sense. Only a fool would work for Trump. And fools they are, Hegseth, Noem, Bondi, these people are completely inept. And rather it is Bibi or Putin, leaders are leading Trump around like a pig with a ring in his nose. Trump is a fool and they all know it. The only bigger fools, the ones that support Trump, no matter what. Like he said, he could shoot someone on fifth avenue and you guys would come to his defense.
It is sad, but it was predicted by our founders. And quite honestly, it breaks my heart.

It is not just dogs, it is cats, and sometimes, it is birds. For years I did in home sales. I could cold call, knock the door, and walk out with their life savings. But one time really brings it home.
So I show up and before I begin my presentation the Cock ado, he starts crowing, "Supper is at 4:30". So hell, I figure I better get this shit done before 4:30. It was a lay down so I move to the next step, I get that too, and I am out of there before 4:30, banking thousands of dollars in commission. I return a couple of weeks later to deliver. That damn bird greets me by name. And then the client tells me, that bird never says a word to anyone. He wasn't telling me to get done before dinner, he was inviting me to dinner.
And it is not just dogs, cats, or birds. Even snakes. My wife's friend showed up early one morning, I was sleeping, she threw a python in the bed with me. We bonded immediately, and while my wife's friend attempted to scare me, what she ended up with was a struggle to get that python back.
So when this thread was posted I looked back. I looked back at when Trump stood before the press to recognize a military dog. Oh, he kept his distance, was no where near the dog. But Mike Pence, he was right there beside the dog, and the dog was nuzzling Pence's hand, he wanted his attention and his petting. I don't like Pence, but I can admire that. Trump, no animal anywhere would have anything to do with him. And what does that say? Well dogs, cats, snakes, birds, they are all smarter than you stupid Trumpsters.
