That really wasn't his job. That was the job of Bibi, who wanted to keep slaughtering Palestinians.
The only reason why things have changed is that the rest of the Civilized World has turned on Israel and is now recognizing Palestine as a nation, exactly the opposite of what he wanted.
A good portion of the planet was anti-Israel before the last few years. Gaza looks like scorched earth. In hindsight an area that should never have happened. If the citizens voted Hamas in, then they reaped the whirlwind of that decision. No matter what, the planet has middle east fatigue.
