WASHINGTON, March 18 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's administration is considering deploying thousands of U.S. troops to reinforce its operation in the Middle East, as the U.S. military prepares for possible next steps in its campaign against Iran, said a U.S. official and three people familiar with the matter.

The deployments could help provide Trump with additional options as he weighs expanding U.S. operations, with the Iran war well into its third week.

Those options ‌include securing safe passage for oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, a mission that would be accomplished primarily through air and naval forces, the sources said. But securing the Strait could also mean deploying U.S. troops to Iran's shoreline, said four sources, including two U.S. officials…

The Trump administration has also discussed options to send ground forces to Iran's Kharg Island, the hub for 90% of Iran's oil exports, the three people familiar with the matter and three U.S. officials said. One of the officials said such an operation would be very risky. Iran has the ability to reach the island with missiles and drones.

I thought this was an “excursion.”

I thought Trump said we have won his war.

I thought Trump said Iran’s military had been obliterated.

The only thing consistent about Trump’s assertions about his war, is his consistency of lies.

So, you Trumpers wanted this war, I presume you will be lining up to go fight.

I shouldn't type this but we have Army infantry, Airborne soldiers, and Marines who have been training and preparing for direct military actions for years. Deploying them MUST be an option, eh?

The notion that "we" can accomplish the things we need to accomplish without getting our figurative hands dirty is fatuous.

All bets are off now that our "Greatest Ally" hit the oil fields!

When the media alleges sources told them, it is bullshit by somebody.

Typical democrat bull excrement. according to four UNNAMED SOURCES and two UNNAMED US OFFICIALS. Sure. Try again. FAKE NEWS.

Reporters talking to one another as sources for each other, after hearing the guy in a McDonald's drive through say so.

Besides the fact that I hate the thought of boots on the ground and will never believe that until I see it, it used to be if you read a "news" story based on unnamed sources, it was ridiculed and not believed.

I see no reason to change that attitude. So many full of shit stories that are unsourced.

What could possibly go wrong? This war is so well planned and the reasons for it are so clear, plus we have an excellent track record of results from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Absolutely no reason to be concerned about sending thousands of soldiers to the Middle East.
