"Treatment of Mamdani shows Islamophobia is still socially acceptable"

I didn't.

Jimmy Carter dragged out the Iran Hostage crisis to get an advantage over Ted Kennedy, and then had no idea how to reel it back.

When people talked about the "October Surprise" back then, it was that Carter would secure the release of the hostages before the election and close the gap with Reagan.

Except... the Iranians didn't play along. After being attacked, sanctioned, and denied the opportunity to bring the Shah to Justice by his death, they simply had no interest in helping Jimmy Carter get elected.

Carter finally got an agreement with them to release the hostages, but as a final "**** You", the Iranians waited until Reagan was sworn in to release them.

Or there was a joke we used to tell at the time

"What's black and crisp and glows in the Dark?"

"Iran when Reagan's President!"
Same thing happened with Nixon in 1968 and the Vietnam war, "You'll get a better deal if I am president".

That works on the assumption the North Vietnamese were ever willing to "Deal".

Aug 6, 2017 — In late October 1968, the two men connected on what came to be known as “the Chennault Affair.

Haldeman, 42, was Nixon’s campaign chief of staff, a devoted political adjutant since the 1950s. In late October 1968, the two men connected on what came to be known as “the Chennault Affair.” Nixon gave Haldeman his orders ways to sabotage Johnson’s plans to stage productive peace talks, so that a frustrated American electorate would turn to the Republicans as their only hope to end the war.

It wasn’t until after 2007, when the Nixon Presidential Library finally opened Haldeman’s notes to the public, that I stumbled upon a smoking gun in the course of conducting research for my biography of Nixon: four pages of notes his brush-cut aide had scrawled late on an October evening in 1968. “!Keep Anna Chennault working on SVN,” Haldeman wrote, as Nixon barked orders into the phone. They were out to “monkey wrench” Johnson’s election eve initiative, Nixon said. And it worked.

The following account of the Chennault Affair is the most up-to-date and revealing exposure of Nixon’s intrigue—the product of hours of archival research, open records requests and a little luck. Documenting this cynical maneuver is important for history’s sake, but the fact that it took nearly 50 years for Nixon’s secret to emerge also offers vital lessons for today. It shows how hard it is to find definitive proof of collaboration with a foreign power when officials are determined to hide the truth.
Their intent was always to conquer the South.

The only "Deal" was how we could withdraw and save face.
Nixon's deal.

Coincidence? They weren't going to **** with Reagan. Even the mullahs knew better.
Bullshit.

Reagan gave Iran everything they wanted, he was a bloviating LIAR.
Then pinned his crimes on underlings.
Just like Trump.

Sure, you think the mullahs wanted their nuclear sites wasted? And it certainly was Obama that gave them a lot of money.

You're pretty much a waste yourself.

No, he didn't numb nuts, Obama unfroze their assets.

Which Reagan did also.

Except Reagan sent them weapons also.

Nixon's deal.
A lot of times problems are inherited from previous administrations. Progs always spew that whether true or false. This was not Nixon. It was President Johnson. At worse Nixon was in the same camp as Johnson. It was Johnson who turned up the heat on that war. And it was massive. In 1968, the then Democratic Party felt it was screwed out of the Presidency one way or the other.

That works on the assumption the North Vietnamese were ever willing to "Deal".

Their intent was always to conquer the South.

The only "Deal" was how we could withdraw and save face.
Nixon curb-stomped the North Vietnamese with the Linebacker offensives and the mining of Haiphong harbor. He entirely cut off the food and war material aid they were getting from China and the USSR. They were begging for the Paris Peace Treaty to be signed and the US to clear the mines so food shipments could resume. The leaders of the North had no intention of "dealing" honestly with Americans and South Vietnamese, but no one on our side was willing to look a gift horse in the mouth and the republicans honestly never thought the democrats would violate the treaty terms and cut the RVN loose to be conquered.

$450 million compared to 6 billion. Seriously?

That money was used to expedite Iran's nuclear program and strengthen Hamas and the Houthi's.

And let's face it, Carter, Obama and Biden were wimps.

A new ad from the National Republican Senatorial Committee?

LOL.
And let's face it, Carter, Obama and Biden were wimps.
Let's face it, Trump is a corrupt, snowflake candy ass.
