Transatlantic on Netflix is inspired by the work of Varian Fry who is responsible for saving thousands of refugees from the Nazis. The series takes place in Marseille, France before the US entered the war. Mary Jayne Gold and the Emergency Rescue Committee risk their lives to help more than 2000 refugees escape occupied France, including many artists on the Nazis’ most-wanted list. There is romance and suspense as the rescues become ever more difficult. A warning to conservatives, there is a love affair between two male characters but the movie focus is on the rescues. There are a few twists in the plot and enough suspense to keep you watching. I found the series fairly good. but it could have been a lot better like most Netflix series. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 91% and an audience score of 82%.
