The Frenchman allegedly behind the stabbing at a Queensland hostel may have been infatuated with murdered British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung.
Smail Ayad, 29, has been named as the man who shouted 'Allahu Akbar' as he allegedly went on a bloody rampage in north Queensland, Daily Telegraph reported.
British man Tom Jackson, 30, heroically tried to save Ms Ayliffe-Chung but was stabbed 15 times in the face in front of 30 horrified onlookers.
Ayad and his alleged victim had recently become friends on Facebook, after she moved to the small town Home Hill near Townsville to complete three-months of farm work to extend her Australian visa.
