Took my wife's car today so I can get a new inspection sticker on the way home. I don't drive it much, so I'm not as used to the configuration of the dashboard. Anyway, I'm in some heavy traffic (par for the course around here) and I decide to switch the radio over from sports talk to a local station that gives the traffic and weather every ten minutes. The car had recently been in the shop and all the radio presets were cleared (the wife doesn't listen to the radio while driving). I didn't want to take my eyes off the road for too long, so I just reached over and took a guess at the dial. This somehow brought me to a Spanish language station that, oddly enough, was giving the traffic report at just that moment. To my somewhat surprise, I had no problem following along with the report. As some may know, it is harder to communicate in another language without person-to-person interaction. Physical cues and whatnot. This is why speaking on the phone in another language is more trying than speaking face to face. Anyway, I got the traffic info I wanted.

The street and location names are not language-based. "Lincoln Avenue" is "Lincoln Avenue" or "Avenida Lincoln." Not a problem. Same with route numbers. If you know Spanish numbers, you have it covered. I think even I might have been able to follow it in Spanish.

Now if they had referred to, "“El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula," I might not recognize that as Los Angeles.
