The U.S. shouldn't support Israel, if Israel continues its settlement policy on the West Bank. That policy is now too costly to the U.S. and the West as a whole to continue to support.
The settlement policy is ethnic cleansing: removing from the land one people to make room for preferred immigrants — immigrant "settlers" from abroad to populate an expanded Israeli homeland. It's been going on now, day by painful day, for a third of a century. As long as it is going on, Israel cannot be seen as seeking peace in good faith.

The expansion policy can continue only as long as there is conflict. Permanent peace fixes borders — ends expansion — and so Israel is not interested in moving toward it.
The victims are not terrorists, but families living on the land Israel desires to repopulate with immigrants. Muslims are treated as a generic whole by Israel, each a threat. The billion Muslims in the world see themselves as individual people with rights.

Being the only major power of the immediate post-WWII era sufficiently mindful of the Holocaust and the near-extermination of the Jews of Europe, to be willing to support them in their quest to re-establish their ancestral and spiritual homeland on the dried bones of Old Palestine.

The other major world religions - Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc., all have one or more regions or countries or capital cities which can be called the Home of those belief systems.

The world's failure to accomplish that simple and obvious task - along the lines of the population transfers of Europe and the Indian subcontinent after WWII - is the root cause of all the Arab-Israeli wars and the fuss-and-bother with the pissant Palestinians.

It seems likely that the time is coming to re-locate the losing side - the Palestinians - moving them out of harm's way and re-positioning them to build new and happier lives, elsewhere, but that's another topic, and a sidebar to this particular thread, so, rather than de-rail it with a sidebar, so early...

The West - and the United States, in particular - will not allow Islam to dictate to it, whom we may befriend, and whom we may not, and whom we may call allies, and whom we may not.

That is the way of the Coward and the Appeaser - and that simply is not going to happen.

A re-awakening, re-militarizing Islam is simply going to have to get used to that, or fight The West, as it sees fit.

Given that Islam has attempted to fight Israel, repeatedly, and that Islam has failed, repeatedly...

And given that Israel's regional neighbors are so pathetically weak at present - and for the foreseeable future - that they can almost be ignored, as a threat to The West...

I seriously doubt that The West needs to be mortally afraid of threats by Militant Islam apologists, fifth-columnists and fear-mongers, trying to Divide and Conquer, and to make The West - and the United States - drop their support for Israel, out of fear of Islamic reprisals or war.

In addition to our traditional 'We will not be bullied' philosophy, 9-11 and the London Tube Bombings rather took care of any doubts, concerning Islam's ability to browbeat The West in general, or the US in particular.

No matter HOW many Muslim Lord Haw-Haw';s and Tokyo Rose's come crawling out of the woodwork, trying to scare us.

Popular support for Israel is at an all-time high, as evidenced by Summer 2014 popular polls in the US, smack-dab in the middle of Gaza War II.

The present - and, now, very lame-duck - occupant of the White House aside...
