I haven't been in Portland for at least a couple of weeks, but it still has some of its charms.

Back in the 70s there was no there, there. By the early 2000s it was totally happening. Now, thanks to Ted Wheeler and ciry government, it is turning into a vast homeless encampment.

Still. There are many sections like North Portland that are much better than they were 50 years ago.

People - Beaverton and Hillsboro are upper middle class suburbs to the Southwest of Portland. The Southwest section of Portland has always been the most tony.

Gresham is to the East of Portland, and one thing that has occurred over the last 50 years is that as many areas have gentrified in especially North Portland, the bad areas have moved east. THe Worst areas are now between 82nd and 102nd east, but are stretching all the way to Gresham these days.

Out there, it is more Sons of Anarchy than it is Portlandia.

Portland and Seattle used to be really great places to visit or to live, like 20 or 30 years ago. Nowadays, they are shitholes than no sane person would want to be.
