The fact that Walz was going to be sent to Iraq with that rank, he was going to command his unit with that rank and he would have eventually returned home with that rank, all without completing the academic course he was supposed to have make his rank be official on paper. Most reservists retire when they reach 20 years. Walz stayed for 24 years and Republicans call him a coward.

I'd love to see some of this commander's evaluation reports. The Army, like most organizations, suffered from evaluation inflation when I was in. By that, I mean that average people got glowing evaluations, so it was difficult to identify the truly outstanding from the merely competent.

But they could also be brutal in the other direction. I had a company commander who wrote of a first seargeant. "Your perfomance is substandard. You have consistently failed to meed even the low standards that you set for yourself."

I'm glad Tampon Tim won't come anywhere near the White House except to take a tour.
