When my grandfather immigrated here from Germany in 1925, he had his citizenship by 1929.

Now, compare that to my wife, who has been here for 9 years, 7 of them waiting for an asylum case that never got heard, the last two waiting for her sponsorship through me to get resolved. And then she will have to take a test with 20 English questions that most Americans couldn't pass.

And, yes, it's hard to learn English. Weird pronunciation rules, odd rules of grammar compared to other languages.
