Yes, we need some legal options for mandatory treatment for the mentally ill/addicted who cannot control themselves. If they have to be incarcerated for that, so be it. It's best for them, and certainly best for people they may hurt.

I say that as a libertarian. But in my opinion, an addict or insane person effectively has no freedom anyway, because they are a slave to their illness or addiction. Helping them get the addiction or the mental illness under control is freeing them, not taking their freedom.
