There are many reasons why but this is just one of them? What exactly was the teacher supposed to do about this?

It is the policy in many school districts that you must be specifically trained for physical interventions with children, especially special education students. whether this was the case is not mentioned.

Exactly. Our ESE teachers and paras had to take a class. No class? No touch! Security had the training too.

Sometimes you don't have the luxury of waiting for campus security. If two (or more) big kids start going at it, the teachers nearby just shout out and expect me and one of another few teachers if available to haul ass down the corridor and get between hopefully without hurting anyone. Campus security does great work, but it's a very large campus and it can take a while to get from A to B.

To me, the lady should continue to go to work. In other words, make it be known that if she does surrender, she is not going to surrender quietly. If they didn't want her to make a big stink, they shouldn't have made one of their own first. In other words, if they didn't want her in the game, why did they take the time to show her how to play it?

God bless you and the lady and her students always!!!

That all depends on the rules set forth in your school, district or state. It varies.

So what was the restraint she used. I had annual training when I worked with kids in mental health on what we could and could not do.
The public schools are being used as mental hospitals and teachers arent trained for that

I have loved kids and teaching for the last 32 years, and I retire on Nov. 1st. This career is now unsustainable. I wouldn't advise almost anyone to go into it now.

Mostly, it's a societal/cultural problem.

My school now feels like an asylum. Screaming, kids getting nekkid (yes), detained in hallways and rooms where they rip drywall out and smear feces on the wall.

I'm not making any of this up
