I said in another thread that Trump could be a hero if he scrapped the wall and created jobs, jobs, jobs for new Customs and Border Patrol agents, more vehicles, equipment and supplies, all made in America of course.
This is an extremely fair and objective article:
$5 Billion Could Buy a Lot of Border Security
Fixing the asylum system, upgrading ports of entry, and tightening security checkpoints might do more to advance Trump’s goals than a wall.

Yeah, you know, you could just as well demand Trump cease to be Trump.
He's nothing other than fat blob of White supremacy on two stilts. He doesn't give a rat's posterior on "The Wall", didn't really push the issue during the first two years, and was ready to give in, until Coulter and Limbaugh showed him the instruments. All he needs is "Them", the rapists, murderers, terrorists, and drug mules, and they have to be threatening so as to keep Trumpletons frightened. Unfortunately, they've taken the Wall bait, and Coulter and Limbaugh seized the xenophobic narrative.
The article is nice, and fair, as you say, but that's just 10% of the issues that needed to be solved. The rest of the story would be really to get production, transport, sale, and consumption of drugs under legal control - instead of driving it underground - to starve the cartels to death. Moreover, meddling in Latin America has to stop, particularly toppling governments in case they dare to lurch a bit to the left. When that's understood and implemented, a Marshall Plan for Central America would be needed further to reduce migration pressures, with a particular focus on good governance and fairness for the worst-off.
Just imagine what a hero Trump could be, if he weren't Trump, that is, an egotistic, narcissistic, to-the-bones corrupt megalomaniac, and an incompetent, monstrous clown running on fanning the flames of hatred of the Other.
