Top DOJ officials quit after their division refused to probe Minnesota ICE shooting

At least six leaders of a Justice Department unit that investigates police killings have resigned in protest over the administration’s handling of the fatal shooting of a motorist in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, according to three people briefed on the departures.

Top leaders of the criminal section of the Civil Rights Division have left their jobs to register their frustration with the department after the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon decided not to investigate the ICE officer’s fatal shooting of Renee Good last week. The criminal section of the division would normally investigate any fatal shooting by a law enforcement officer and specializes in probing potential or alleged abuse or improper use of force by law enforcement.

The departures – including that of the chief of the section, as well as the principal deputy chief, deputy chief and acting deputy chief – represent the most significant mass resignation at the Justice Department since February. At that time, five leaders and supervisors of the department’s Public Integrity Section, which investigates public officials for possible corruption, resigned rather than comply with an appointee of President Donald Trump’s orders to dismiss the bribery case against then-New York mayor Eric Adams.

Between resignations, firings, and hacks being hired the DoJ has been gutted. Dhillon being one of the hacks. How can you not investigate a high profile case like this? Easy, you work for trump's DoJ.

Well, they're willing to investigate some things.

F.B.I. Inquiry Into ICE Shooting Is Examining Victim’s Possible Ties to Activist Groups

Federal investigators assigned to the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old Minneapolis woman are looking into her possible connections to activist groups protesting the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement, in addition to the actions of the federal agent who killed her, people familiar with the situation said.

It seems increasingly unlikely that the agent who fired three times at the unarmed woman, Renee Nicole Good, will face criminal charges, although that could change as investigators collect new evidence, the people added.

On Sunday, President Trump described Ms. Good and her wife, Becca Good, as being “professional agitators,” adding that the authorities would “find out who’s paying for it.” He offered no evidence to support his claims.

The decision by the F.B.I. and the Justice Department to scrutinize Ms. Good’s activities and her potential connections to local activists is in line with the White House’s strategy of deflecting blame for the shooting away from federal law enforcement and toward opponents they have described as domestic terrorists, often without providing evidence.

The DoJ is trying to assassinate Good's character and that of her wife. A tactic trump uses all the time.

Six Prosecutors Quit Over Push to Investigate ICE Shooting Victim’s Widow

Six federal prosecutors in Minnesota resigned on Tuesday over the Justice Department’s push to investigate the widow of a woman killed by an ICE agent and the department’s reluctance to investigate the shooter, according to people with knowledge of their decision.

Joseph H. Thompson, who was second in command at the U.S. attorney’s office and oversaw a sprawling fraud investigation that has roiled Minnesota’s political landscape, was among those who quit on Tuesday, according to three people with knowledge of the decision.

Mr. Thompson’s resignation came after senior Justice Department officials pressed for a criminal investigation into the actions of the widow of Renee Nicole Good, the Minneapolis woman killed by an ICE agent on Wednesday.

Mr. Thompson, 47, a career prosecutor, objected to that approach, as well as to the Justice Department’s refusal to include state officials in investigating whether the shooting itself was lawful, the people familiar with his decision said.

They're going after Good. It's beyond despicable.

"according to three people briefed on the departures." LOL

"A Justice Department official did not dispute the departures but said the officials had requested early retirement prior to the Minnesota shooting, adding that 'any suggestion to the contrary is false.'”

You could not shout "coverup" any louder with stadium speakers.

The regime always has another card to play in order to get this story off the front page. Like threatening Iran. Or Cuba. Or Greenland. Or launching a bogus criminal investigation in to the Fed chairman.

THIS ^^^

The media is trying to paint this as people who have a fundamental difference in who was at fault when, in fact, they had applied for an accepted early retirement BEFORE the incident in MN.

The DOJ got this exactly right.

It is the ICE agent that is the victim here.

Why investigate? It's a clear case of "fucked around and found out."

Case closed.

Nope. They expressed their concern to higher ups at the DoJ about how things were being run. Once Dhillon shut down the Good investigation that was the last straw.

One source briefed on the reasoning for the resignations said the handling of the ICE shooting was not the only concern for the unit leaders and that some were concerned about other decisions by division leadership.

15th post
No fake news ......they quit because they didn't want Good's widow investigated.

Why not sunshine ? All facts be known?
The articles refer to two different groups of officials. Try to get your facts straight.

What us there to investigate? Everyone has seen the videos and they are inconclusive, but one thing we know for sure is that if the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and the Mayor of Minneapolis and assorted other Minnesota politicians had not been inciting violence against ICE agents and the local police had exercised crowd control, the very dangerous situation the led to Good's death would not have occurred.

So let's hold the real culprits accountable and arrest the four of them, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Mayor and Police Chief in order to keep everyone safe.
