Of course not. The entire thing is a way to get around limits on state power. We're having the same discussion about SNAP benefits. Should being on the dole mean that that government can tell you what groceries to buy? I think most of us would balk at the notion of the government telling poor people that they can't eat candy and drink soda. But, according to some, if they're getting any goodies from the government that sort of thing is fair game.Let's remember the question at hand. Namely, is it okay for trump to try to punish Harvard because it told him to take his attempt to control university policy and stick it where the Clorox goes?
I like that you played dumb and thought I was referring to you personally as opposed to you lefties as a group.I made the universities political?
That aside, isn't Dotard always touting his belief in free speech?
The demented LEFT never think through their schemes, EVER.
So, instead of ending the practice - it's just about getting revenge by doing the same thing? Oh joy.My point stands. YOu lefties made the universities into political tools for YOU, so you made them political.
You really should be grateful for the country club republicans that were weak and stupid enough to allow you to do that, and not do anything in response.
But that pass they gave you, MAGA doesn't respect.
So, your whining about it is dismissed. Time to bring the hammer down on the universities.
We need to show you leftards no mercy.
So, instead of ending the practice - it's just about getting revenge by doing the same thing? Oh joy.
I understand. It's different when you do it.Sorry, One side fighting for control and to abuse any and all systems to advance their aggenda and the other side fighting for fairness,
that is just a form of choosing to lose. We would not win, when we win and we would certainly lose when we lose.
THIS is the overriding theme of MAGA.Better to destroy it and burn it to the ground.
They should revoke any federal funding for these elite, already well off universities, including their tax exempt status. Let the rich who go there pay their fair share and their rich families can support the school.I.R.S. Is Said to Be Considering Whether to Revoke Harvard’s Tax-Exempt Status
The Internal Revenue Service is weighing whether to revoke Harvard’s tax exemption, according to three people familiar with the matter, which would be a significant escalation of the Trump administration’s attempts to choke off federal money and support for the leading research university.
President Trump on Tuesday publicly called for Harvard to pay taxes, continuing a standoff in which the administration has demanded the university revamp its hiring and admissions practices and its curriculum.
Some I.R.S. officials have told colleagues that the Treasury Department on Wednesday asked the agency to consider revoking Harvard’s tax-exempt status, according to two of the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal conversations.
Federal law bars the president from either directly or indirectly requesting the I.R.S. to investigate or audit specific targets. Any attempt to take away Harvard’s tax exemption would be likely to face a legal challenge, which tax experts expect would be successful.
Harrison Fields, a White House spokesman, said the I.R.S.’s scrutiny of Harvard began before the president’s social media post.
I.R.S. Is Said to Be Considering Whether to Revoke Harvard’s Tax-Exempt Status
Harrison Fields would have us believe trump isn't behind this obvious act of retribution following Harvard's refusal to effectively hand over control of the university to trump in return for continuing to receive federal grant money. Something that stretches credulity beyond any reasonable boundary.
We should be accustomed to the gaslighting by now. It's a constant theme of the regime. But in this instance it's so transparent as to be like a 6 year old denying she ate a chocolate bar before dinner with the evidence smeared all over her face.
It seems to me the members of the regime involved in the decision to try to punish Harvard understand the ridiculous nature of their denial. Understand it stretches credulity. Understand the public will see through it..........and just don't care. Which is troubling. Because it's a signal things are out of control. A signal no act is too outrageous, or too illegal, or too clearly motivated by personal animus, to try. A signal this regime is governing without adult supervision. They have chocolate smeared all over their faces and they don't care who knows it.
Educational institutions pose a threat to the fascist Trump regime.Wake the hell up. Part of the authoritarian playbook is to bring major educational institutions to heel.
Trump and his supporters seek to silence free speech and lawful political opposition. Not anymore.
No, that's what YOU assholes do. You love to accuse people of spreading "disinformation" and you try and silence them.Trump and his supporters seek to silence free speech and lawful political opposition.
It's what fascists do.
I understand. It's different when you do it.
THIS is the overriding theme of MAGA.
Yes, yes. It's well known that stopping racism is an overriding concern of Trump and MAGA.????, That's not what I said. YOu can tell, because I didn't say anything like that.
BUT, if you want to look at the issue though THAT lens, let's do that.
The primary conflict between Harvard and Trump is that TRump has decreed that there will not be any race based discrimination as it violates the law.
Harvard wants to be allowed to continue to discriminate against white and asian students.
The government shouldn't be "pushing" any culture. So, yes, in the culture war, the RIGHT, MAGA is pushing a GOOD culture, while the Left, Harvard is pushing a culture of racism and hate and oppression and violating people's civil rights.
"Our way or we burn it all down."Win or burn it to the ground, is more a comment on our level of committment to that goal.
The irony of your absurd complaint in the face of trump's extortion of private universities to be used as enablers for Stephen Miller's xenophobic, fascist crusade against immigrants is not lost on me.My point stands. YOu lefties made the universities into political tools for YOU, so you made them political.
Yes, if we the American taxpayers are handing out money to universities, we have a right to withhold that money if they work against American citizens’ interests. In the case of liberal universities, they are allowing antisemitism to skyrocket on campus and present threats and danger to American Jews.Of course not. The entire thing is a way to get around limits on state power. We're having the same discussion about SNAP benefits. Should being on the dole mean that that government can tell you what groceries to buy? I think most of us would balk at the notion of the government telling poor people that they can't eat candy and drink soda. But, according to some, if they're getting any goodies from the government that sort of thing is fair game.
Likewise, people think that if "we" - (for some reason, they think of the government as "we") - are handing out money to universities, "we" should be able to tell them how to go about their business.
Which citizens? Which interests?Yes, if we the American taxpayers are handing out money to universities, we have a right to withhold that money if they work against American citizens’ interests.
The "we" in your assertion is trump, so let's get that straight. "He" is putting strings on grant money that largely funds research, not working against American's interests, working for their interests. But he thinks "he" should have the power to be in control of how universities are run because he thinks the office of the prez should be all powerful. That's the mentality of an autocrat.Yes, if we the American taxpayers are handing out money to universities, we have a right to withhold that money if they work against American citizens’ interests.
American citizens. The interests of American citizens.Which citizens? Which interests?
