There's only one solution to the budget and the National Debt, no one likes it

Don't you support draconian cuts to other areas? I didn't know anyone was disputing that cutting the defense budget would have consequences.

I support completely eliminating some government agencies in their entirety. I think about 90% of what government does is unconstitutional. The military is probably the most legitimate thing government does. Of course, cutting government is going to eliminate jobs for government bureaucrats. I fully realize there will be a ramification.

There are certain government programs we need to eliminate and some we need to fund more. Overall, most departments and agencies we need to keep can be reduced by 10~20%. I'll even say the Defense Dept. can be reduced by this much. I don't think that is "draconian" but others may.

Care4All throws out the number $250 billion. That's pretty draconian by any measure because it's about 42% of the overall budget. Now, perhaps we could cut the defense budget this much but there will be some serious ramifications and it won't erase our deficit. Plus, read the Constitution... this is the one thing that is a primary responsibility of government. When it comes to seriously cutting the budget, I just think we should start with all the unconstitutional shit first.

Nice strawman, I wasn't actually disputing that.

Quick fact check though. Only half of US foreign bases (including CSL) are in NATO member countries.

Well, first you complained of military bases overseas, now you've carved out a caveat of non-NATO bases. Okay, can we be more specific? Where should we eliminate our military presence? Have we fully considered the consequences of that? Perhaps you're right, maybe there are bases abroad we no longer need that don't serve a vital strategic purpose? When it comes to stuff like this, I don't like to make broad blanket statements. I think it's prudent to look at all the aspects and make decisions wisely.

It's really easy to bow up and say... We need to eliminate all them foreign bases! But that is isolationism and we know from experience it's terrible foreign policy. We can just ignore history and blindly do it but we're going to regret it somewhere down the road. I have a serious problem with that.

the only answer is to cut our defense budget by $250 billion a year
You do know your welfare "budget" is well north of a trillion
social security and medicare ARE NOT WELFARE...we have paid in to them via payroll taxes since our first legit job in our teens until in our 60's...about 45 years straight of paying in, before we can draw the benefit.

That is partially correct.

Tell Me, does the money stop flowing if you live long enough to collect back every penny you put into it?

Let the billionaires call the shots, they are experts...lmao..in reality they are not in it for normal americans.

This is a stupid Socialist MEME. Most billionaires WANT a vibrant "middle class" who have money in their pockets so they can buy products. They WANT people to be able to pursue their dreams and ambitions and become as wealthy as they are.

I tell Socialist dipwads this all the time... It's an awful terrible problem Free Market Capitalism has that it creates so many millionaires and billionaires! Goddammit... if only there were some way to create more misery and poverty so people are crushed and have their lives destroyed by oligarchs and the ruling class, things would be just GREAT! But we're stuck with this shitty system that enables free enterprise and individual liberty so that the poorest of the poor can achieve any level of wealth they desire and it attracts all these foreign people who dream of coming here to be free! ....It's just awful and despicable, isn't it? :dunno:

Hang on... not ALL of it is an earned benefit. I agree that people who've paid into the system their whole life should be compensated but we're WAY past that now. We have millions of people being paid out of the Social Security funds who never paid a dime into the system and never will.

It has become all too easy for politicians to reward special interest groups with handouts under the guise of Social Security. Then you defend that by using the elderly and children who are legitimately receiving benefits of a system they paid into or their parents paid into.

I have been told by three doctors that I qualify for Disability. I could be sitting on my ass and drawing about $1,200 a month if I just submitted the paperwork. But I can't do that because I'm not that kind of person. I can still take care of myself and I can still earn income. Now, I could certainly justify it... I paid into the system all these years, I deserve the benefits. Most people in my position wouldn't have any problem with it. For me, it's just an ethical thing and I'm not going to until I have no other option.

The solution to the deficit and debt is to go back to PAYGO, and not let the Republicans kill it again.
No. You eliminate the debt by FORCING each government office to justify its very existence.

You're an idiot. PAYGO implemented 1990, with triple digit deficits. By 2000, budget surplus. 2002, GOP lets PAYGO expire...

...and away we go with the return of massive deficits.

That Trillion figure is only means tested expenditures.

Do whatever you wish, I only want my money back.

The problem with our budget is we're constantly creating new bullsht government jobs, and they , in turn, have blank checks to buy services from their business owner friends.

The answer for the budget and the National Debt is dissolve departments.

Ask yourself the next time you drive by a homeless camp if any of these jackasses in government are worth a sht.

I hope you realize the Department of Homeland Security has a budget 10 times larger that the CIA, has no interest in securing the country in ways we think are right, and is now involved with your loans when you buy a house.

It's great having a job paid for by the public, and no accountability.

Instead of pushing people around, all these government people need to go back to working at Starbucks

Funny. Who's going to pay for it?

The answer to the debt problem is getting rid of the partisan Democrats and Republicans and replacing them with more parties elected with PR.

You can cut as many govt jobs as you like, if you still end up going to war, still end up spending billions on rich people, you won't get anywhere.

You haven't a clue what the Federal government spends money on.

With JUST a little bit of research, you can prevent looking like a jackass.

Now, tell us where we can save money on the federal budget.

Amazing, 60% of the entire Federal Budget is income redistribution.

The treasury collects PLENTY of money, they need to give less back in entitlements and spend more on shit that will grow the economy. Obama had the worst GDP growth of ANY modern President. We cannot operate as a welfare state....we will collapse.

22 trillion dollars in to the war on poverty, and we have seen negative progress, not negative as in no progress, but negative as in the fact we've taken many steps back. Poor have gotten poorer, more have become poor...Was it Jefferson who said something like put a government in charge of the Sahara desert and there would be a shortage of sand?

I did the math, that's giving 70,000 dollars to every single citizen...which were not at all giving it every single citizen so....yea I'd say that's failed policy.
