the widening gap

Well, that widening gap happens in nearly all developed countries.
There are two qualities here, how wide the gap is and how fast it widens.
I think that the speed of the widening directly depends on how wide the gap already is.
Wealth always means power, and power will always be used to gain more of it.
If wealth is already distributed unequally, those who already have it have an easier time of getting more.

The US has a lot of checks and balances for political power, I think it could use some for economical power too.
Dont you think that the world would be a nicer place if those lots of economic power would no longer be able to abuse it by blackmailing everyone else with moving their industries away?
