The USA has just one company making Artillery cannons check it out

Ever wonder what companies make cannons for the USA? Well, it turns out just one makes them.

Well that's seems pretty stupid. Who decided this was a good thing to subject to single point source failures?

The US Navy gave VDOC a bunch of stuff (mostly paint and marine grade plywood) so we rented a U-Haul, took a couple of convicts and went down to the base in Williamsburg, Virginia to get some.

They assigned a seaman to us to show us were to go. I saw this big stack of what i thought were culvert pipe and asked if they were giving away any of that pipe.

He laughed and said they were 16" rifle barrels (for battleships) so we drove over to have a look.

Damn they were impressive. He said they had been there since WW-2.

Interestingly, because of North Korea, South Korea is now a MAJOR player of heavy artillery tubes, mobile artillery, and shell production. They arguably can outproduce Russia now.

They are now getting big into the main battle tank market. They are effectively equipping Poland to face the Russian Bear. Poland will not be conquered again.
