this urban legend started in the US and has later reached Europe

it says that those restaurants dont allow you to try the dish of your spouse ... etc

it is an evil way of lying

Some restaurants slap on a “sharing” charge if you only order one entree and share it

That's dumb. And I would like to see them try to stop us.

that is somehow understandable.

the urban legend goes like this ...

a pair orders two different meals ... and try a bit from each other.

and because of that they are now banned for life.

but as i said, these are invented stories

it would be hilarious to see the cops dragging you and the other half out onto the street

I'd sue the pants off of everyone involved. And I have the money to get a decent lawyer at this point.

SO, I agree, it would be hilarious. I'd milk that story and enjoy that money for the rest of my hopefully long life.

we sometimes share the dessert .... and we ask for two spoons then ... and this is always accepted without a problem.

My wife and I have done the sharing bit with entrees sometimes.

And the upcharge there makes sense. We are taking up a table and staff time.

And we tip even more heavily instead of based on our smaller bill.

You would lose in court. end of story. As long as your civil rights are not violated a restaurant can refuse the right to serve anyone.
If I were the owner I would sue YOU to recoup all legal fees. I would have my brother take you and all you got and put you out on the street. My brother is a lawyer and I showed him this and he said "slam dunk" you will lose simp yes you will.

A restaurant can legally refuse service and remove customers for legitimate reasons, like being obnoxious, overly intoxicated, or refusing to leave after hours, but they must not violate civil rights laws.

Sharing some tastes with each other is not a legitimate reason to call the police.

violating a no-share policy is. I show you the policy, you refuse to comply.
I ask you to leave, you refuse to comply, I call the police, out you go :itsok:

If they have a posted policy, and are enforcing it so that couples can't even TASTE, as oopposed to ordering a single entree and eating it together,

then they are complete arrogant assholes and I would leave and tell everyone I know what assholes they are and what terrible service they provide.

You know, i have paid for fine dining a few times, and will again, and doing so, my wife and I, and often our daughter, have tasted and shared and had no problems, paid and tipped well.

This weird hostility you have for good customers, is... not good.

Every place where we are regulars, they are happy to see us come in.

We are certainly not regulars at the fine dining establishments. They are nice, but really not worth it.

The more reasonable family dining or even lower end "trendy" style places around us, we are prefect for them. Middle class white family with money to spend and willing to tip for good service.

Your view of the customer as the enemy, where the customers are not to even taste each other's food, is .... not healthy.

You know, the primary purpose of those tastes, is to see if it is worth coming back so that we could try more of their food. Because if it was good enough to justify the extra drive and expense, we would have been happy to go again.

The type of person that would see that and want to put a stop to it,

if a ******* asshole. AND a fool. Because he is fighting to STOP potential future business.

Can not keep the doors open with "cheap skates" like yourself as patrons. :itsok:

fortunately these tales of places where it is verboten to taste each other.s food are urban legends and not true. 😊

But they can harm places that are falsely accused in these tales. 😒

Actually, I think you have it wrong.

It is the mass market that keeps places open. Sure I might only go there once or twice a year. But there are hundreds of thousands of MEs in this area, while only a couple hundred, millionaires, who can afford to be a regular.

With me and mine, they would close.
