The followed the process. They applied for and were granted asylum, under the laws and treaties signed by the United States.

Wisconsin man who voted for President Donald Trump was forced to watch as his wife was taken away by immigration officers as they arrived home from a belated honeymoon.
Bradley Bartell's wife Camila Muñoz is a Peruvian citizen whose initial visa lapsed but is in the process of obtaining permanent residency in the U.S.
Muñoz had arrived in Wisconsin Dells while on a work-study visa in 2019, which expired around the time COVID-19 hit and international travel ground to a halt. While working farming and hospitality jobs, she was introduced to Bartell, who gave her his number on a scrap of paper, which she threw away.
The pair reconnected on Facebook a few days later and formed a serious relationship. When they got married, taking a honeymoon wasn't an option due to the pandemic and February's trip to Puerto Rico was a chance to make it happen.
On their return to mainland U.S., Muñoz was pulled aside by immigration agents who asked if she was an American citizen. When she told them she wasn't, but was in the process of obtaining a green card, she was taken away and is now being held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention in Louisiana.

Nope. You must enter the country at a legal point of entry to apply for asylum. Over 90% of asylum applications are turned down.

You actually don't have to present yourself at a legal point of entry. You can do that at any time up to one year after entering the country.
My wife applied for asylum when she came here on a tourist visa 9 years ago.
The problem was, 7 years later, they still hadn't scheduled a hearing to review her case.
Fortunately, we have now switched to a relative sponsorship visa, and that only took a year to process.

I'm pretty sure irrational fear shouldn't be a basis of policy.
How many Americans have been murdered (not counting accidents) involving undocumented aliens? Give me a number.
We had 19,000 homicides in the US in 2023. How many of them were undocumented immigrants.

The actual RAPES and MURDERS that occurred are not an irrational fear you Dem sheeple. The hundreds of thousands who were KILLED by these filthy POS illegals trafficking drugs into OUR country is not an irrational fear. We have WIPED OUT other countries for less. Mexico is lucky they are not a bombed out smoldering pile of rubble.
