Well , that is really just the air temperature in the shade .

If you are not in the shade - it’s 15 degrees hotter !! Why ?? Because you are absorbing direct photons from the sun

So 105 in AZ is really 120 F

NOAA has a standard shelter design ... and "in the shade" is always available ... it has to be a sunny day to get readings "in the sun" ... the thermometer itself will heat up sitting in the sun ... but that's no good if we want the temperature of the air ...

More important I think is these temperatures varies greatly over rather short distances ... if it's 90 at the weather station, it might be 95 or 100 where you are, and be within ten miles of the station ... there's been accidents at Denver airport because things like this ...
