The point is, one race or one group shouldn't have to lord it over the others. In a democracy, and in our nation in particular, every citizen is supposed to get an equal shot and equal respect under the law. That's the ideal, and the human animal will probably never completely achieve that, but it is a good ideal to strive for, imo.
