I see the problem with U.S. politics is that for candidates we get the extreme from both parties. I'd prefer non-partisan primaries to bring some level-headedness into the process.

Can you explain this? The GOP certainly doesn't push extreme right wing politicians. Compared to 80's/90's GOP policy, the republicans have drifted more moderate. Meanwhile, the Democrats have sprinted radically to leftist in policy and social issues compared to 20-30 years ago.

I think Obama mainstreaming identity politics in 2010-2012 caused a massive group of liberals to begin radical tribalism by race, sex, sexual orientation, etc.. and began loathing the country as well as anyone who didn't celebrate them.

Conservatives largely view leftists as misguided, leftists view classic liberals and conservatives as evil. One side can have a discussion, the other views their opposition as so evil that any action against them is justified, no matter how aggressive, unfair, or unconstitutional. Censorship? Corruption?
