I didn't follow the media coverage, and don't pay attention to it anymore, but weren't they just reporting what he was claiming? Not sure how that's fake news; when even a minor celebrity is claiming to have been attacked in a hate crime, that's news. Maybe they should've been more skeptical of his (frankly, quite unbelievable) story, I don't know, but there's nothing wrong with reporting on what he was saying happened.
It seems like, once it was revealed that there was something quite fishy going on, they reported that as well. Not sure where the "fake news" accusations are coming from.
But yeah, as someone who lives in Chicago, it's pretty unthinkable that a couple white guys would be roaming around in that weather, in the dead of night, looking to attack a black man ... not to mention all the other random details that make no sense. Why would they scream "this is MAGA country"? It's Chicago, not rural Alabama.
