I don't have to imagine. Years ago I saved one of the really good super bowls and I realized long after that it just happened to also be the last super bowl madden gave commentary on and participated in, so, I just have to play it again.

When I was a kid I was watching football one Sunday and saw John Madden come walking out onto the field. Something about his gait seemed really strange, yet vaguely familiar.

Then it dawned on me that I'd seen that gait before in the Patterson/Gimlin film clip.

Madden was part of an NFL that doesn't exist anymore, and I miss.
NFL before free agency. Where teams mattered more than any individual player. Where you came to know your team because it wasn't a constant shuffle of players moving around in trades or seeking more money.
The game itself was more important then.
Madden was an awesome commentator because he LOVED the game. He lived and breathed football.
