It's still going on and, stores have had to spend probably billions to add cages, plexiglass cases, security, etc to their stores. CA still as the 'petty theft' limit of $950. You can walk in a store in CA and steal $950 worth of goods and walk away clean.

Even Gavin Newsom and the democrat mayor of SF are whining that something needs to be done about the rampant shoplifting crime in SF.

Dollar Tree raised their prices to $1.25 in 2021. They also own Family Dollar and they are closing them down. Can't say about Dollar General, but their prices in our area of WA about the same time. Many of their prices have been well above $1 for years and years. They have sold meats in those stores on the west coast to $3 and sometimes $5 for well over 10 years. I had to laugh at Gavin Newsom. I guess he was in SF and went into a store to buy some necessities for his trip. While in there, some thieves broke into his car and stole his luggage. LOL, serves him right. They won't do anything until their policies start affecting them personally.
