Apparently, people have been pointing out Kirk's racism and bigotry from the beginning. As for me, I barely knew who he was before he was shot, and had never remembered hearing him speak before. I knew him mainly as a dorky-looking guy who tried to turn college kids wingnut. I knew him more for his gummy smile that people made fun of than for any political positions. I didn't even know he was a racist until he died. I mean, I assumed normal level of Republican racism, but not virulent, cringe-inducing remarks.
