The link above lists Abraham Lincoln as America's greatest president. I respectfully disagree. In my opinion, George Washington holds that title. His leadership set an unparalleled example. Without his restraint and vision, the United States might have devolved into a banana republic. Washington had at least two opportunities to seize power and become a dictator, yet he turned them down. That kind of humility and commitment to democracy is truly unique.

Think about it—how many people, especially those with dominant, Type-A personalities, would resist such temptation? Most leaders who rise to the top have enormous egos and believe that if they were in charge, everything would be perfect. Washington’s selflessness stands out in stark contrast.

If Washington had chosen dictatorship, I believe the course of history would have been drastically altered. The abolitionist movement might never have gained traction, and without it, there would have been no Abraham Lincoln. That’s just my perspective, but it underscores the profound impact of Washington’s choices.

Abe killed a million Americas; Washington pitted Family against Family; parleyed with the French in a treasonous act that led to revolutions that killed MILLIONS................French, Russian and Chinese). I keep going to Theodore Roosevelt.

You are correct—it was treason against the king, the sovereign. As I understand it, treason is defined as an offense against the sovereign. Had the American Revolution failed, all the Founding Fathers likely would have been executed. Even their families might have faced the same fate, their property seized, and they could have been cast into the streets to starve—that was often the way monarchs handled such rebellions. At least, that seems to be the historical pattern based on my reading of history.

I agree, everything President Washington had an effect on our nation. President Lincoln knew his shit was in the wind if the Confederacy had won. He was by Wilkes-Booth a Southern Fanatic.

FDR should NOT have run for a 4th. Term, he knew he sick, but his ego kicked in. I would say three Dwight D. Eisenhower. He fought McCarthyism and warned the Military-industrial Complex. He defeated Hitler. JFK, LBJ, Ricard M. Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter all served one term. Kennedy was killed, not even a full term. Viet Nam did in LBJ. Nixon was an asshole. Carter never stood a chance.

I’m not sure of who the best President was but I’m certain of who the worst were…
Lincoln and Reagan hands-down and it’s not even close.

Consider this, Lincoln sends ALL slaves home to Africa so they don’t have to live in systemically racist America and Reagan never signs the Amnesty Bill that created this shit-storm at our border and throughout our nation.
Now close your eyes….what does that America look like?

Thanks to drooling biographers of the era, Lincoln gets credit for "preserving the Union" but the fact is that the Union broke up under his watch. Lincoln apparently had personal and family problems which might have interfered with his ability to make intelligent decisions. At any rate he is clearly at fault for listening to prevailing rumors of the time that indicated that a Civil War wouldn't last more than a week or two.
