Ice cream and fried oysters make unlikely bedfellows
The ice cream with its fried oyster topping is pictured in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture.
BIZEN, Okayama -- For those with more robust palates, an unusual local specialty is gaining popularity here: A soft ice cream topped with fried oysters.
Called "kaki (oyster) soft," this unlikely taste sensation can be yours for a mere 250 yen at Gomi no Ichi, a shop operated by a fishermen's cooperative in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture.
The ice cream, which boasts two fried oysters drizzled in soy sauce, has been known to notch up sales of around 100 on some holidays. (Mainichi)
