The GOP Conventrion 2024

TUESDAY NIGHT SUMMARY:

I don't know how they're going to top tonight for the pure emotion evoked by the speakers.

Other than for JD Vance when he came in and then when President Trump came in, it's a toss up whether the longest sustained applause was for Nikki Haley when she was introduced to speak or for the young mother of a child killed by an illegal migrant. Laura Trump wrapped things up tonight with the longest speech of the night and frankly it was rather anti-climatic after the other speakers--it could have been more effective if shortened in my opinion--but she did good.

The speaker line up tonight was impressive: Johnson, Scalise, Cotton, Stefanik, Cruz, Rubio and several other well known Republicans that I can't recall off the top of my head plus several other people with personal stories to tell.

The theme tonight was MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN! and a police officer speaking on how difficult it has been under Biden was also very well received.

We hoped Melania might make an appearance tonight but it didn't happen. I still won't be surprised if she has a speaking slot later on though even though she's not on the official list of speakers.

By the way, Nikki gave an unequivocal, emphatic, and enthusiastic endorsement of President Trump.

Such a motivational RNC happening. These last 2 nights will be electric!
I think so too. There are few things that can hold my interest for hours but they're doing it. I forgot to mention Vivek Ramaswamy in my summary post but I thought he was especially good tonight. And I laughed out loud when he said he was impressed that so many people there could correctly pronounce his name and then later when he was ticking off Republican inclusiveness of all races, creeds, ethnicities, countries of origin et al and he included 'people with long last names.' :)

I keep running into programs where they want to feature themselves and damned near ignore the convention. I agree with the report above.

Yes. I am extremely annoyed by TV hosts--Fox is as bad as any of them--who think they are more interesting than the speakers. Which is why I am doing all of my watching on C-span who do not interrupt any of the scheduled or impromptu programming. I haven't checked on Newsmax but they may be allowing all the speakers to be heard too.

I forgot to mention Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her really great speech last night--she was one of several that brought tears of joy and/or empathy to my eyes and the convention goers.

I hope it isn't crass to draw the analogy but I recall one instance from WWII in which General Patton, in Tunisia, was meeting with two British officials and complained about lack of air cover the British were responsible to provide. The Brits were stating that they were providing adequate cover when two low flying German planes strafed the command post several times sending the three men under the conference table for cover as bullets pierced the roofing. The two planes then flew away untouched. Patton is quoted as saying something to the effect that if he knew who those two pilots were, he would give each one a medal.

And I thought that as unconscionable and as tragic/horrible/indefensible as the assassination attempt on President Trump's life and the injuries and death on Saturday, if one good thing came from it, it has cooled the hateful rhetoric and unified the Republican Party to an extent I have not seen for a very long time, maybe ever. It is a pure joy to watch in the Convention.

Oh one other pertinent thought awaiting tonight's session that may be epic as JD Vance was initially scheduled to follow President Trump tomorrow night, but I heard he will speak tonight, no doubt as the keynote speaker.

I have not heard one single person--not in the speeches, not in the announcements, not in the video presentations, not in the interviews of people on the convention floor or man-on-the-street interviews in restaurants, etc. . .

. . .not one single person has even mentioned Project 2025 that the Democrats are now trying to use to demonize Republicans.

There is a company known as The Heritage Foundation that produced 2025 as a project.

The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank doing a lot of research, teaching, and some activism promoting free speech, free enterprise, limited government, and competent constitutionally based American leadership. Project 2025 does not directly involve President Trump but it is the Foundation's vision for how a Trump administration could reshape America back into the country the Founders intended that it would be. The Heritage Foundation has zero power to implement anything and demonizing Project 2025 is perhaps one of the most lame tactics of the Democrats yet. And emphasizes just how radical and unAmerican they have become.

Day Three--MAKE AMERICA STRONG AGAIN--just kicked off in Milwaukee. It is JD Vance night and we will meet his wife and maybe his kids. Abbott, Burgum, Don Jr and several other big names are scheduled to speak.

A couple of curious things today--the media apparently has gotten notice to suppress the iconic photo of Trump with raised fist just before entering the limo to go to the hospital. Apparently the photo has been rated 'too dangerous' translated too helpful for a newly unified RNC Convention that is playing very well in Peoria.

The other thing is that Joe Biden cancelled a speech today as he, yet again, has tested positive for COVID. The timing of this one is curious though and I'm seeing a lot of speculation that it is the first crack in his resolve to stay in the race.

I'll give Kimberly Guilfoyle the nod for the best stemwinder speech tonight. Next to JD, Peter Navarro did get the longest sustained applause. We met JD's wife for the first time and she gave a short, pleasant speech. JD did fine. I suspect there will be other more inspiring speeches over time, but he got done what he needed to do tonight.

They wrap things up tomorrow night with President Trump who is said to have completely rewritten the speech that had been finalized before last Saturday, but after the shooting, he decided to go a different tactic altogether.

It could be the most watched speech of the campaign. We'll see.

I saw a good bit of it. I wish I had better coverage of it all. JD is a winner. His wife's talk was excellent. Did not see Guilfoyle or Navarro. Will see if they are on youtube.

Trump's granddaughter gave a powerful speech about Donald Trump.

Navarro's remarks were pretty standard and not particularly memorable as I couldn't tell you what he said LOL, but I was struck by the very powerful and warm welcome he got when he walked out on the stage. As he was absolutely a victim of Biden's weaponized DOJ, it was heartwarming to see. I was struck that he was upbeat and optimistic and did not come across as the least bit defensive. I expect that he will receive a full pardon from President Trump once back in office.

For that matter I don't really recall what Guilfoyle said, but the audience approving response to her enthusiasm was contagious. What is so interesting about Guilfoyle is that despite her being MAGA on steroids now, she was married to Gavin Newsom for a few years though neither he nor Don Jr. is the father of her son but rather her second husband, Eric Villency to whom was also married for only a few years.
